Jul23121 African Excellence Awards 2026 33 Integrated PR Agency of the Year 2026 – Southern Africa Hook, Line & Sinker (HLS) is a full-service communications agency that was established in 2019 on a simple belief: PR needed to evolve. As audiences changed and the advancement of digital transformed communications, the Cape Town-based agency saw an opportunity to redefine the industry through a more strategic, digital-first and integrated approach. We sat down with Founder Adam Hunter to learn more, as Hook, Line & Sinker is featured in the African Excellence Awards 2026. fter being retrenched from a large and prominent PR agency in Cape Town, Adam Hunter used his payout to buy an entrylevel laptop and began consulting. In 2019, he registered Hook, Line & Sinker, and from a single technology software client, he built an award-winning agency that now serves clients across three continents. That laptop stayed with Adam for five years as he gradually built Hook, Line & Sinker into the industry-leading entity it is today. Hook, Line & Sinker is more than a PR agency. It combines PR, digital, content, social media, executive profiling, and multimedia storytelling to solve business challenges and deliver measurable business outcomes. The agency’s digital-first approach ensures that every campaign is developed with today’s communications landscape in mind, creating content that not only hooks audiences but also strengthens online visibility, searchability, and long-term brand authority through strategic, SEO-informed storytelling. In a competitive market, Hook, Line & Sinker stands apart not only for its catchy name, which also represents its three-step formula, but for its ability to combine the strategic senior counsel of larger consultancies with the agility and personal service of an independent agency. This philosophy has earned the trust of multinational organisations across Africa, Europe, and the Middle East, along with industry recognition that includes South Africa’s Best Small Public Relations Consultancy, multiple PRISM Gold Awards, and the title of Corporate Vision’s Most Creative Agency in South Africa for two consecutive years. Fresh and digitally savvy, Hook, Line & Sinker is on a mission to create strategic communications that hook audiences, shape perceptions, and help clever brands grow. This mission is closely aligned with the current economic climate across Africa, where organisations are under increasing pressure to do more with less while navigating rapidly changing markets, digital disruption, and evolving stakeholder expectations. This service is delivered by a team employed for its creativity and willingness to challenge conventional thinking. Unlike larger agencies, where roles can become highly specialised, the HLS team works across multiple areas of integrated communications. This structure is essential to the team’s development, providing broader experience, greater responsibility, and a faster path to professional growth. The agency has experience across several industries, spanning business and finance, ICT, software and technology, education, travel and hospitality, retail and e-commerce, and the non-profit sector. HLS is equally as committed to its community as it is to its team. The agency has actively supported NGO client DKMS Africa Blood Cancer Group for more than five years, and its PR work over the past year played a direct role in the organisation reaching the historic milestone of 100,000 registered diverse donors. This landmark has fundamentally shifted the odds for blood cancer patients of colour in South Africa, who previously had less than a 30% chance of finding a matching donor. Furthermore, Hook, Line & Sinker supported the NGO Santa Shoebox Project for a number of years. The agency’s final 12-month campaign for the organisation reached more than 90 million people, helped collect 74,751 personalised gifts for underprivileged children, and delivered a 251:1 return on investment. Adam told us, “This kind of work keeps us grounded, attracts clients who share our values, and reminds us why we do what we do.” Looking to the future, Hook, Line & Sinker is preparing to embark on a five-year strategy that will see the agency invest in digitally focused staff development and expand its digital services through its strategic partnership with iLEAD. At the same time, its team is working to establish a pan-African footprint through agency partnerships in key markets such as Kenya, Nigeria, and Ghana, while also growing its podcast and production arm, HLS Studios. These upcoming endeavours reflect the direction in which Hook, Line & Sinker believes the communications industry is heading. The landscape has evolved significantly since the agency’s establishment; in less than a decade, HLS has emerged as a leader in the sector, earning the title of Southern Africa’s Integrated PR Agency of the Year 2026. Reflecting on this transformation, Adam shared, “Hook, Line & Sinker started with a single client. Today, we still support this client globally and now manage some of the biggest power brands across three continents, including SAP, Cisco, the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF), and Radisson Hotel Group. Six years in, and we are only just getting started!” Contact: Adam Hunter Company: Hook, Line & Sinker Web Address: www.hooklinesinker.co.za A
