She aspired to make education more accessible, inclusive, and fun, turning this vision into reality by creating innovative educational tools that break down barriers and open up opportunities. Opting to encourage learning through play, Editions Arzeka designs interactive tools, games, books, and materials that put fun at the heart of education. The publishing house’s work centres around the belief that children learn best when they manipulate, explore, share, and have fun. It takes a “zero-screen” approach to product development, offering children a fun and educational alternative that promotes human interaction, stimulates curiosity, and helps reduce the risks associated with overexposure to screens. “Our learning tools combine image, writing, and sound for the promotion of African languages, in a sector where all these combinations are scarce.” This belief has culminated in the development of the Nana Box range, two innovative solutions for learning and transmitting mother tongues. Designed to promote language learning in a fun and accessible way, the Nana Box is available in three complementary versions – English, Moore, and Dioula – each presented as a box of cards accompanied by an audio player to facilitate oral expression and correct pronunciation. This product developed by local expertise is predominantly designed for families, schools, educational centres, leisure centres, libraries, bookstores, and institutions engaged in education and the preservation of cultural heritage. Whilst this tool was initially designed with children in mind, its unrivalled effectiveness and ease-of-use make it an invaluable resource for adults also wishing to acquire the basics of Burkinabe national languages. Each box allows the user to learn by listening, rehearsing, and playing, whether with family, in class, or independently. The Nana Box utilises carefully chosen words, adapted to the beginner learning level and the family environment. Its translations have been delivered by a team of expert linguists and qualified translators, and its audio content is recorded by authentic voices of local journalists, guaranteeing a clear pronunciation that is faithful to local accents and phonetic specificities. “Editions Arzeka is thus positioned as a committed educational player at the service of academic success, the preservation of linguistic heritage, and the openness to international languages of the younger generations,” stated Pelagie. “We choose to mobilise local skills in the design, development, and management of our projects, thus contributing to the strengthening of local expertise and the creation of skilled jobs.” Editions Arzeka has deliberately chosen to work with a network of distributors and partners who actively participate in the distribution of its products and the creation of added value within the local economy. Its team is currently seeking to localise the manufacturing of certain product components within Burkina Faso, in collaboration with technical and academic partners. This endeavour will further contribute to strengthening local skills, promoting technology transfer, and creating more added value for its community. Looking to the future, the team will continue to develop new Nana Box offerings in additional African languages, whilst also expanding its presence in several countries on the continent.
