Our operations involve both the Hercules and the B737- 400 Combi providing logistical support and we are very active in Central / East Africa. In addition, Safair provided aircraft for logistical support to ISAF (Afghanistan), the SANDF and a number of other governments and agencies. Commercial operations are also a large part of our business. For example, some other interesting missions we have undertaken are: • Relocating Rhino’s into to Zambia and Tanzania; • Transporting an aquarium of Manta Rays and Hammerhead Sharks from Taipei to Singapore; • Transporting rescue personnel and equipment from South Africa in support of the relief effort in the Philippines after Typhoon Haiyan in 2013; • Oil spill spraying operations; • A major item on our calendar are our annual flights from New Zealand to Antarctica whereby we provide logistical support to a government research unit; • Transporting ‘adventure seekers’ from Chile to a base in Antarctica called Patriot Hills and; • Sea searches for missing yachts / vessels. In August 2014, Safair launched a low-cost airline (FlySafair). The airline operates domestically within South Africa, utilising 6 x B737-400 and 3 x B737-800 aircraft. FlySafair operates between the main cities within South Africa namely Johannesburg, Cape Town, Durban, Port Elizabeth, East London and George. In August 2016, it commenced serving Johannesburg’s secondary airport, Lanseria International.
