Since its inception in 2005 Al Shunnar Plastic Surgery has been offering a full range of Plastic Sur- gery treatments, with a special emphasis on breast surgery and breast cancer reconstructive surgery, aesthetic facial surgery, body sculpting as well as nonsur- gical anti-aging treatments. Owner and Founder Dr. Buthainah Al Shunnar, is the first American Board-Certified Plastic Surgeon in the UAE with exten- sive experience in breast surgery, body contouring, aesthetic facial surgery, hand surgery, cancer reconstruction and microsurgery. After graduating medical college with Honors from the Royal College of Surgeons in Dublin, Ireland in 1991, Dr. Al Shunnar received her five years of general surgery training at the Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore and George Washington University Hospital in Washington D.C., where she was elected to the Alpha Omega Alpha national medical honor society. She then completed her Plastic Surgery Training at the Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, under lead- ers in the field in both cosmetic and reconstructive surgery, in what is considered to be one of the most rigorous Plastic Surgery training programs in the world, to become the first American Board-Certified Emirati Plastic Surgeon as well as the first female Emirati Plastic Surgeon. After her training, Dr. Al Shunnar spent three years in the USA as Consultant Plastic Surgeon in private practice, simultaneously, covering a major trauma center for its reconstructive needs and holding an academic position at Hershey Medical College where she mentored and taught the residents and fellows. She sub- sequently returned to the Middle East and took up a position as Consultant Plastic Surgeon at Sheikh Khalifa Medical Center in Abu Dhabi for two years before establishing Al Shunnar Plastic Surgery in Dubai in 2005. Dr Al Shunnar’s relentless focus on constantly enhancing her skills and developing new plastic surgery techniques, remaining deeply humble and dedicated to her patients, combined with her artistic eye has been the trademark of her clinic. She has furthered medical science by de- veloping and implementing sur- gical techniques such as minimal scarring, pain management and, for breast reconstruction, Acellu- lar Dermal Matrix, which improve the result and success of Breast reconstruction; the results of which are routinely presented at international and national plastic surgery conferences. Meticulous in her selection of clinic staff, that need to display exceptional skills, ethics and devotion to patient care, she looked back to the US to strengthen the clinic team with similar high calibre doctors also trained at Johns Hopkins University. Fast forwarding to 2019, Dr Al Shunnar has successfully completed over 10,000 surgeries and firmly established Al Shunnar Plastic Surgery as a leading clinic in the UAE, building a highly discreet and private clinic and focusing purely on word of mouth referrals from physicians and patients. Today its reputation stretches far beyond the UAE, with patients from all over the world travelling to Dubai for treatments. In 2018 she received the prestigious “Distinguished Surgeon” award by Dubai Health Authority chairman H. E. Humaid Mohammed Obaid Al Qutami. She was also named as one of the 22 ‘Women of Distinction of the UAE’ together with notable and prominent other women such as H.H.
