Matawi, which means ‘branches’ in Swahili, is a sustainable spirits company that was founded in 2018 after a protracted drought. Matawi has a clear environmental and social mission: we use innovative African brewing traditions to craft spirits made from climate-resilient ingredients, which we source from historically disadvantaged communities to help alleviate poverty and inequality, thereby entrenching the company as a substantial contributor to Africa’s economic development & growth.
